Cow on the Loose Causes Chaos in Wokingham – Police Take Dramatic Action
Roadside Bovines Spark Rush-Hour Mayhem
Thames Valley Police were scrambling at around 7.40pm yesterday after reports of a runaway cow wreaking havoc near the A329M in Wokingham. Officers quickly closed the road amid fears for motorists’ safety and spent time trying to contain the animal.
Cow Charges Public, Injures Police Officer
The cow then charged into a Woodley residential area, causing panic. Despite the joint efforts of the police and the farmer, the distressed animal couldn’t be controlled. It even charged at a member of the public, causing minor injury, and left a Thames Valley Police officer hurt in the chaos. Vehicles were also damaged during the rampage.
Police Forced to Euthanise to Protect Public Safety
With no other options, including tranquilisation, left on the table, officers had to take drastic measures. A police vehicle was used to block the aggressive cow and stop it charging again. In the end, the animal was humanely euthanised on the scene by a private firm — a tough but necessary call to prevent more injuries and end its suffering.
“The decision was not taken lightly,” Thames Valley Police said. “It was essential to protect the public and limit the animal’s distress.”
The injured officer has since been discharged from hospital and is recovering at home.
Social Media Footage Sparks Concern
