Tragic Bungalow Blaze Ends in Fatality
At 11:42am on Thursday 7 January 2020, firefighters from Shirebrook, Bolsover, and Nottinghamshire’s Mansfield Station rushed to a bungalow fire. Wearing breathing apparatus, crews bravely entered the property to rescue an elderly gentleman. He was quickly handed over to East Midlands Ambulance Service and taken to hospital.
Man Dies After Deliberate Fire
Tragically, the man later died from his injuries. A joint fire investigation revealed the blaze was most likely started deliberately by ignition of combustible materials. Despite this, the fire is not being treated as suspicious.
Firefighters Urge Community to Stay Alert
Station Manager Chris Timons, Officer in Charge at the scene, said: “Firefighters and Community Safety Officers are out speaking to locals about fire safety and offering reassurance after this devastating fatal fire.”
He added, “We urge people to check on elderly family, friends, and neighbours to ensure they feel safe and not isolated.”
