Amazon UK to splash £170m on pay rises amid inflation fears

Massive wage boost for frontline staff

Amazon UK is set to pump £170 million into two hefty pay raises for its frontline workers over the next six months. The pay hikes have even grabbed the attention of the Bank of England, which is monitoring inflation closely.

Starting October 15, minimum hourly pay will jump by at least £1, landing between £11.80 and £12.50, varying by location. Then, by April next year, wages will climb again to between £12.30 and £13 per hour.

Biggest pay rises in years

Overall, this equals a 20% increase over two years and a massive 50% rise since 2018.

Amazon UK employs 75,000 staff and is also kicking off recruitment for 15,000 seasonal roles ahead of Christmas.

This comes hot on the heels of supermarket giants Morrisons and Aldi announcing plans to hire 3,500 and 3,000 extra Christmas workers respectively.
