Sanditon Final Series Lands on ITVX This August

The much-loved period drama Sanditon returns for its thrilling third and final series on ITVX from August 3, 2023. Produced by Red Planet Pictures, the show has captured hearts worldwide with its mix of charm, romance, intrigue, and cheeky humour. Fans can look forward to one last trip to the stunning seaside town where their favourite characters live and breathe.

Massive Global Following for Jane Austen’s Lost Novel

Based on Jane Austen’s unfinished final novel, Sanditon has been a hit on both sides of the Atlantic. In the US, it was the third most-watched show of the season on Masterpiece, pulling in an impressive 4.8 million viewers. Between March 19 and May 13, 2023, the series was streamed over 4.1 million times—a 10% jump from the previous season. Its international appeal is undeniable, with broadcasts reaching over 190 countries including Japan, Norway, Brazil, Australia, Spain, and Israel.

New Faces, Fresh Drama and Classic Austen Wit

Rose Williams, who plays the beloved Charlotte Heywood, is buzzing about the finale. She says fans will love the “new brilliant characters” joining Season 3 while catching the final chapters of Sanditon’s original crew. “Playing Charlotte has been a true gift,” Williams added.

The latest batch of characters includes:

  • Lady Montrose (Emma Fielding) – The quintessential Austen mother intent on matchmaking her children.
  • Lydia Montrose (Alice Orr-Ewing) – A rebellious young woman with her own ideas about love.
  • Lord Henry Montrose (Edward Davis) – Charismatic and secretive.
  • Rowleigh Pryce (James Bolam) – Wealthy investor stirring trouble alongside Tom Parker (Kris Marshall).
  • Samuel Colbourne (Liam Garrigan) – A dashing lawyer and bachelor who catches Lady Susan’s (Sophie Winkleman) eye.

Romp, Romance and Rivalries on the Sunny Seaside

This finale tackles Charlotte’s return with her fiancé while she wrestles with old feelings for Alexander Colbourne. Meanwhile, Georgiana (Crystal Clarke) fights for her inheritance in court alongside Samuel Colbourne. Edward (Jack Fox) tries to prove he’s reformed, but temptation looms in the form of Augusta Markham’s fortune.

As weddings bloom and some engagements sadly fail, love and self-discovery are at the heart of Sanditon’s seaside tales.

A Star-Studded Production Sealing the Deal

Emmy-winning screenwriter Andrew Davies first brought Austen’s 11-chapter fragment to life. For seasons 2 and 3, Justin Young took over as lead writer and executive producer, steering the story to its stunning conclusion.

Belinda Campbell, Executive Producer at Red Planet Pictures, can’t wait to see how UK viewers respond to the final season and the characters’ fates in Sanditon.
