The fire broke out just before 4pm on Tuesday, April 22, quickly spreading across multiple boats parked on land at the boatyard on Tipner Lane. Motorists on the motorway spotted towering smoke and reported it immediately as emergency crews swarmed the area.
“Firefighters are currently tackling a blaze involving a number of boats on land at a boatyard on Tipner Lane in Portsmouth,” said a Hampshire & Isle of Wight Fire & Rescue Service spokesperson.
Fire Crews Race to Scene After 20 Emergency Calls
pCrews from Southsea, Cosham, and Portchester were dispatched after the control room received around twenty 999 calls from alarmed locals. Authorities have urged residents nearby to keep windows and doors shut due to the thick smoke. They warn the public to avoid the area while firefighters battle the flames.
