Local builders land huge £2.6m Sellafield contract – business booming!

Family Firm Secures Major Sellafield Deal

William King Construction, a family-run firm from Cleator Moor in West Cumbria, has bagged a £2.6 million contract with Programme and Project Partners at Sellafield. They’ll be handling masonry and fitting internal fire doors for the SIXEP Continuity Plant project on the iconic nuclear site.

Third Big Win After Business Course Boost

This marks their third major Sellafield contract since taking part in a powerful week-long business course run by the 123 Growth Hub. “We started with just a van and an apprentice!” the company said proudly.

For this local SME, landing work on such a huge infrastructure project is a massive achievement and a real honour.

Growth Means More Jobs and Opportunities

With a packed order book and contracts lined up for years to come, William King Construction is expanding recruitment. They’re opening doors for those with low academic achievements, giving them a shot at rewarding careers.

The firm aims to help new starters enrol in apprenticeships at the local college and will keep growing their team ahead of future projects.

Sellafield Bosses Praise Local Impact

“We’re thrilled to see home-grown companies like William King Construction securing key projects. It’s central to our approach to boost the local economy and increase employment in Cumbria,” said Peter Hogg, head of supply chain for Programme and Project Partners.

Luke Richardson, head of social impact, added: “William King Construction runs a great apprenticeship scheme and supports local homeless charity Calderwood House. They help residents find jobs, proving real community commitment.”
