Emergency crews rescue man stuck in Newport home

Firefighters and paramedics rush to Lugley Street

Firefighters and ambulance crews scrambled to Lugley Street, Newport, on the Isle of Wight in the early hours of Friday morning. A 999 call flagged urgent help for a man who had fallen and injured his back inside his home.

Complex rescue using aerial ladder platform

One fire engine and an aerial ladder platform from Newport fire station were dispatched to assist. Paramedics arrived shortly after 3am but faced tricky access inside the property. Due to space restrictions, the man had to be carefully placed into a basket stretcher and lifted out through a window with the help of the ladder platform.

Road briefly closed during hour-long rescue

The rescue operation took just over an hour to complete. Authorities temporarily closed the road to ensure safety during the complex extraction. Thankfully, the man was safely transported to St Mary’s Hospital for treatment.
