West Wickham High Street is closed both ways after a serious smash involving a man in his 70s and a Heavy Goods Vehicle (HGV). Emergency crews rushed to the scene following the collision where the man was trapped at the back of the lorry.
Man Suffers Life-Threatening Injuries
Police, paramedics, and firefighters were called just after 3pm on Monday, 26 July 2021. The injured man was rushed to hospital with life-changing, possibly life-threatening injuries. The Met Police’s Roads Policing command has launched a full investigation.
Road Closures and Bus Diversions in Effect
West Wickham High Street remains closed between Ravenswood and Sherwood Way. Bus routes 119 and 194 are diverted while police carry out their inquiries. The closure is expected to last for hours, causing disruption for locals and commuters alike.
Police Update: Truck Driver Co-operating
A Met Police spokesperson said: “Police were called by LAS at approximately 14:48hrs on Monday, 26 July to reports of a collision between a pedestrian and a Heavy Goods Vehicle on West Wickham High Street. Officers and LAS attended, and a man in his 80s was taken to hospital with life-threatening injuries. The driver of the truck stopped at the scene. No arrests have been made.”
Motorists and pedestrians are urged to avoid the area while the investigation continues.
