Firefighters battle massive marsh blaze in Swanscombe. A large area of grass and undergrowth on Swanscombe Marshes went up in flames, sparking warnings for nearby residents.

Windows and Doors Shut: Smoke Warning for Locals

Residents of Greenhithe and Swanscombe were told to keep windows and doors closed amid thick smoke from the fire. Early on, four fire engines and an all-terrain vehicle rushed to the scene, with more support on the way.

Six Fire Engines Tackle Growing Blaze

By 9pm, the fire had spread over approximately three hectares. Six fire engines were battling the flames, focusing on preventing the fire from spreading further across the marshes.  

Fire Under Control, Smoke Warnings Lifted

By 9.30pm, crews made strong progress, reducing the affected area to around five hectares. They were damping down hot spots and managed to contain the blaze. Authorities lifted the advice to keep windows and doors closed.

“There are no reported injuries, and the cause of the fire remains unknown,” officials said.
