Chelmsford Family Homeless After Candle Sparks Bedroom Blaze
A family in Chelmsford has been left homeless after a candle left burning unattended sparked a fierce fire in their bedroom.
Flames Rip Through Terraced Home
Fire crews rushed to Longmead Avenue after reports of a blaze at a terraced house. On arrival, firefighters found a bedroom fully engulfed in flames. The fire started when a candle was left unattended, setting nearby materials alight and quickly spreading.
Smoke Alarm Saves Lives
Thanks to a working smoke alarm, the family was woken up in time and escaped unharmed. The quick alert proved crucial in preventing tragedy.
“Never leave candles burning unattended — always extinguish them when you leave the room and ensure they’re completely out before going to bed. Keep candles away from materials that could catch fire and make sure you have working smoke alarms installed throughout your home,” advised a fire service spokesperson.
Heavy Damage Leaves Home Uninhabitable
The fire caused severe damage to the bedroom, leaving the property unsafe to live in. The family faces weeks of repairs and clean-up before they can return.
