Blaze Rips Through London Flat: Multiple Rescued Amid Gas Leak Fears
The second and third floors of an eight-storey building went up in flames yesterday evening, sparking a dramatic rescue operation.
Heroic Firefighters Save Five from Smoke and Flames
Station Commander Paul Green, who was at the scene, revealed firefighters in breathing apparatus pulled one man from a second-floor flat. He was rushed to hospital by ambulance crews.
Three more residents were led to safety by crews wearing fire hoods, while a fourth was helped from the burning block. All four were treated for smoke inhalation on site, with three taken to hospital for further care.
“Firefighters conducted a thorough search of the block, and two more people were assisted from the structure,” Commander Green added.
Ongoing Danger as Gas Leak Sparks Explosion Risk
The fire followed an earlier explosion suspected to have been caused by a gas leak. Fire crews remain on site tackling the hazard.
A 25-metre safety cordon has been set up, and a section of Bethnal Road remains closed to traffic. Authorities warn motorists to avoid the area as the closure is expected to last for some time.
Emergency Services Swamped with 42 Calls
The fire brigade received a flood of 42 emergency calls. They dispatched multiple teams from Shoreditch, Shadwell, Dockhead, Islington, and nearby stations at 5.53pm and continue to manage the incident.
The cause of the blaze remains unknown as investigations continue.
