The car’s only two occupants, a husband and wife, spotted the smoke early. They managed to steer the smoking vehicle into The Stag’s car park before calling emergency services.

Shanklin fire crew arrived swiftly, suiting up with breathing apparatus and attacking the blaze with a hose reel. The fire completely engulfed the Citroen, causing some traffic delays on the approach to the pub.
