Blaze Hits London Flats: Four Hurt as Firefighters Battle Fierce Flames

Dozens of firefighters rushed to a blazing inferno in a central London residential block, sending four people to hospital. The dramatic fire broke out in a third-floor flat of a 22-storey tower on Commercial Street, Spitalfields, Tower Hamlets.

Massive Response as Flames Tear Through Flat

Footage shows raging flames engulfing the flat. Around 60 firefighters and eight fire engines arrived within 10 minutes of the emergency call. One woman was rescued by firefighters in breathing gear, while three others were treated on scene by London Ambulance Service before being hospitalised as a precaution.

The London Fire Brigade revealed the fire destroyed a four-room flat, damaged a balcony, and partially wrecked the roof. Crews used a 32-metre turntable ladder to douse the blaze from above.

Residents and Locals Express Concern Amid Fears of Spread

“I was working nearby when we spotted the fire across the road,” said one onlooker. “There were loads of people watching, nobody knew what was happening.”

Another witness added, “People were really worried it would spread. Thankfully, firefighters contained it before things got worse.”

Road closures between Commercial Street and Aldgate High remain in place, with bus diversions affecting the area. The public is urged to avoid the scene.

Official Response and Investigation Underway

Local councillor Kabir Hussain took to X to confirm all residents are safe. “We do not want a repeat of the Grenfell Tower tragedy,” he said.

A London Fire Brigade spokesperson confirmed crews from Shoreditch, Dowgate, Euston, and nearby stations battled the fire. They received 21 emergency calls, with the first at 11:39 am and the blaze under control by 12:21 pm. The cause remains under investigation.
