Massive Blaze Rips Through Holloway Takeaway – Five Hospitalised
A huge fire tore through a takeaway on Seven Sisters Road, Holloway, in the early hours, forcing frantic evacuations and sending five people to hospital.
Emergency Response: 100 Firefighters Battle Inferno
The blaze erupted at around 3:15 AM, prompting the London Fire Brigade to dispatch 15 fire engines and about 100 firefighters. Crews from Holloway, Kentish Town, Islington, and Euston rushed to the scene to tackle the flames.
Residents trapped above the takeaway were rescued with ladders while nearby neighbours were urged to keep windows shut because of thick smoke choking the area.
Restaurant Destroyed, Gas Line Secured
The fire completely gutted the takeaway on the ground floor. Firefighters also worked urgently to secure a gas main near the site as a safety measure.
Station Commander Mike Watts warned: “This fire is producing a lot of smoke. We strongly advise local residents to keep their windows and doors closed. Road closures are in place—please avoid the area, especially during rush hour.”
Evacuations and Injuries – Residents Left in Shock
At least 18 residents were evacuated from the flats above. Five were hospitalised as a precaution, including 61-year-old Veysel Kesel and a 25-year-old woman who both shared harrowing escape stories.
Kesel, wrapped in a blanket at the scene, said: “It was the middle of the night. We ran for our lives. I hope my flat is okay. It’s freezing, and I don’t want to be homeless with the holidays coming up.”
Islington Council is organising temporary shelters for those displaced.
Separate Fire Breaks Out in West Hampstead Flats
Just miles away in West Hampstead, another blaze struck a house converted into flats on Lyncroft Gardens. Ten engines and 70 firefighters battled flames that damaged the roof. Around 25 residents evacuated safely, with no injuries reported.
Drones and a 64-metre turntable ladder helped crews gain the upper hand on the fire.
Investigation Ongoing as Safety Teams Stay On Site
Both fires are now under police and fire investigation to determine the causes. Specialist teams remain on site, monitoring for safety and preventing further outbreak.
Authorities continue to warn commuters to avoid affected roads and take alternative routes. More updates will follow as the situation develops.
