A former DVLA employee and two Swansea car dealers were jailed for conspiring to defraud car buyers by altering official vehicle records, boosting car values by nearly £1.3 million.

Matthew Holloway, 32, abused his role in the DVLA special registration team, tampering with ownership histories, erasing write-off records and changing vehicle identities to conceal damage and theft.
Swansea Dealers Involved
Car dealers Joshua Sawyer, 31, and Ashley Harris, 44, collaborated with Holloway to sell vehicles with falsified documents, reaping estimated profits of £75,000 and £90,000 respectively, while Holloway received £23,400 for his role.
Judge Condemns Crime
At Swansea Crown Court, Judge Catherine Richards called the scheme “an example of organised crime” that damaged trust in DVLA records crucial to motorists, traders, and law enforcement.
