M3 Shutdown After Car Crashes Into Tree Near Basingstoke
The M3 eastbound is shut between Junction 6 (Basingstoke) and Junction 5 (Hook) following a serious crash. A car veered off the road and smashed into a tree, bringing traffic to a halt.
Emergency crews, including Hampshire Police and National Highways Traffic Officers, are on site handling the scene and managing traffic. Drivers are warned to expect heavy delays and urged to find alternative routes.
Official Diversion Route Launched
Road users must follow the solid diamond diversion signs to bypass the closure. Here’s the route:
- Exit M3 eastbound at Junction 6.
- At the roundabout, take the first exit towards Basingstoke/Newbury.
- At Black Dam Roundabout, take the second exit onto the A30 eastbound towards Old Basing.
- Continue approximately 4 miles through Old Basing to the junction with the A287 at Hook Common.
- Turn right onto A287 and follow to M3 Junction 5 roundabout, then take second exit to rejoin M3 eastbound towards London.
