Ex-Sussex Cop Banned for Fake CCTV Claim
Dishonesty Rocks Police Force
Former Sussex Police detective constable Jessica Newey has been slammed for gross misconduct after a fast-tracked hearing exposed her faking evidence. She lied about reviewing CCTV footage in a criminal case — a move that landed her career in ruins.
Deception Uncovered, Career Cut Short
- Newey admitted the lie to her boss, triggering a Sussex Police investigation.
- The Professional Standards Department and the Independent Office for Police Conduct got involved.
- The false CCTV claim did not change the criminal trial’s outcome.
- No signs of dishonesty found in other cases she handled.
- Though Newey quit before the hearing, she faced certain dismissal.
- She is now barred from policing by the College of Policing’s banned list.
Police Chief Hits Out at Misconduct
“Maintaining the integrity of investigations is crucial to securing justice for victims. That relies on the honesty and diligence of our officers and, where that falls short, we will take appropriate action,” said Detective Superintendent Andy Wolstenholme. “While this was only flagged because the officer reported it herself, it was still a serious breach. Had she not resigned, she would have been dismissed.”
Jessica Newey’s policing days are officially over after breaching core professional standards. Sussex Police vow to clamp down hard on any officer who crosses the line.
