Blaze Tears Through Dagenham Home
Six fire engines and around 40 firefighters raced to a blazing detached house on Keppel Road, Dagenham, last Saturday.
The fire ravaged half of the ground and first floors and gutted most of the roof.
Quick Response Saves the Day
Station Commander Keith McDermott, at the scene, confirmed: “Everyone was safely out of the building when we arrived.” A 32-metre turntable ladder was deployed as a water tower to douse the flames.
Firefighters battled hard to control the inferno, which was finally extinguished in under two hours—called in at 4pm and out by 5.47pm.
Lithium-Ion Battery Sparks Dangerous Fire
Officials believe the blaze started when a lithium-ion battery inside a bin failed, sparking the fire. These batteries can ignite if overcharged, damaged, short-circuited, or submerged in water.
Experts warn to always store, charge, and recycle batteries safely using trusted recycling services to avoid disasters like this.
Multiple Fire Stations Join the Fight
- Firefighters from Barking, Ilford, East Ham, Romford, Hainault, and Wennington stations were all called in.
- The Brigade’s 999 Control Officers handled ten emergency calls about the fire.
Thankfully, no one was harmed, but the damage to the property is severe.
