Tragic Derry Hill Crash: Corey Owen’s Funeral Set for Next Week
Corey Owen, one of four friends killed in a fatal Derry Hill car crash last month, will be laid to rest next Monday, 21st September. His family has arranged a funeral cortege through Calne, giving the community a chance to pay their respects.
Funeral Route Through Calne
The cortege will leave at 10am, travelling along Oxford Road towards Tesco, where Corey worked. It will continue down the bypass into School Road, through Calne town, and on to the A4.
Residents wanting to honour Corey as the cortege passes are urged to obey social distancing rules and not gather in groups larger than six, in line with coronavirus guidelines.
Covid-Safe Celebration of Life
After the funeral service, a private celebration of Corey’s life will be held at a Covid-secure venue. This is strictly invite-only to keep everyone safe.
“We completely understand those who loved Corey want to come together to remember him,” said Inspector James Brain of Wiltshire Police. “But we urge everyone to follow Covid rules to protect public health. Calne will see four funerals in the coming weeks – it’s a tough time for families, and the last thing we want is a Covid outbreak here.”
Inspector Brain specifically called on young people in Calne to respect social distancing and government restrictions.

Terence Herbert, Chief Executive of Wiltshire Council, expressed heartfelt condolences. “Our thoughts are with the families and friends of Corey, Jordan, Matthew, and Ryan – this tragedy has shaken the entire community. We’ve worked closely with police to ensure that the celebrations of their lives can be done safely during these unprecedented times.”
The community is urged to come together with care, honouring the lives lost without risking further harm.
