ITVX to Launch UK’s First Ever British Sign Language Channel

Mark your calendars! ITVX officially launches on 8 December, and it’s set to make history. For the first time ever, Deaf viewers will get exclusive access to a British Sign Language (BSL) channel packed with signed programming. It’s a global streaming first!

What’s on the BSL Channel?

The channel features all-time favourites and top shows like Emmerdale, Coronation Street omnibus episodes, Cilla, Alan Carr’s Epic Gameshow, Vera, Lewis, and The Saint. Expect a regularly updated mix of recent hits and classic archive gems across a wide range of genres.

ITVX: A Streamlined Viewing Experience with Accessibility Front and Centre

ITVX launches with 20 themed channels designed for a smooth, lean-back viewing experience. These channels will sit just below ITV’s six main channels – ITV1, ITV2, ITV3, ITV4, ITVBe, and CITV – in the ‘live’ section.

David Padmore, ITV’s Director of Accessibility, says:

“We’re committed to placing great accessibility at the heart of ITVX. Our ITV Signed Channel gives us a fantastic platform for showcasing our rich archive of signed programmes.”

Industry Applauds ITV’s Accessibility Push

Teri Devine, Associate Director for Inclusion at RNID, praised ITV’s efforts:

“Following the British Sign Language (BSL) Act earlier this year, it’s fantastic to see more industries become accessible to BSL users. ITV’s new channel feature makes it easier for BSL users to find signed content. Accessibility should be the norm, and we look forward to ITV expanding these services across other platforms.
