A cold-blooded killer who deliberately drove into a dad before spinning a web of lies to dodge blame has been locked up for life.
Tragic Collision on Ormscliffe Road
Lee Baker, 28, was killed on 21 July 2025 after a car was deliberately driven into him on Rednal. The victim and his brother were walking after a heated argument with three men earlier that day when the horror unfolded.
Vicious Attack Followed by a Fake Story
Michael Povey, 29, who had caught wind of the earlier dispute, ploughed his BMW straight into Lee and his brother at 5.10pm. Lee’s brother narrowly escaped by jumping out of the way, but Lee wasn’t so lucky. He suffered fatal head injuries. After mounting the pavement and smashing into a front wall, Povey fled the scene. Then the lies began. Povey called 999, claiming his car was stolen by a “yob” and said he was “scared to go back around” because someone was hurt. But police saw through his fibs.
Justice Served at Birmingham Crown Court
With no fixed address, Povey was found guilty of murder on 6 February and pleaded guilty to perverting the course of public justice. On Friday, 10 April, Birmingham Crown Court sentenced him to life in prison with a minimum term of 20 years.
“We know Lee has gone and we would love to see him or hold him just one more time, but we can’t. He has been taken from us forever. He will be missed and loved forever.” – Lee’s family
