NHS Covid App Goes Live for Over-16s in England and Wales!
The NHS Covid-19 app is now ready to download for anyone aged 16 and over in England and Wales. Packed with handy features and powered by privacy-first tech, it’s the quickest way to find out if you’ve been exposed to Coronavirus.
Stay Alert, Stay Safe
- Get instant alerts if you’ve crossed paths with someone who has Covid
- Check your local area’s Covid risk level using your postcode
- Scan official NHS QR codes to check into venues safely
- Assess your symptoms with the built-in checker
- Book a test directly through the app
- Receive self-isolation advice with a handy countdown to track your isolation period
Privacy First – Your Data is Safe
Using Apple and other privacy-protecting technology, the app does not track your location, monitor if you’re self-isolating, or access your personal info or other data on your phone. Your privacy remains locked down.
Public Health Boss Urges Everyone to Download
Ruth Hutchinson, Director of Public Health in Surrey, said:
“The app is the next step in the fight to stop the spread of Coronavirus in Surrey. The more Surrey residents that download the app, the longer we can continue to keep Surrey safe. Contact tracing is absolutely essential to managing infection levels, and by using the app you will be doing your bit to help keep them down. The app tracks the virus, not you. The quicker you know that you are at risk of infection, the quicker you can alert and protect your loved ones. Lockdown was difficult for many people and we should all do what we can to prevent it. The app will help us stop the spread of Coronavirus in our local areas.”
New Rules for Businesses: QR Code Posters Mandatory
From now on, certain venues must legally display NHS Covid-19 QR posters for customers to scan:
- Hospitality: Bars, pubs, hotels, cafes
- Tourism & Leisure: Museums, galleries, gyms, leisure centres
- Local Authority Buildings
- Places of Worship
- Close Contact Services
- Event venues holding physical gatherings
Other workplaces and buildings will probably join in, displaying QR codes to support NHS Test and Trace as we battle Covid together.
