Lord Ranger Quits Government Whip Over Drunken Bullying Spree
Lord Ranger, once a trusted adviser to Boris Johnson, has dramatically resigned the government whip after a drunken rampage at Parliament’s Strangers’ Bar. An investigation revealed he bullied and harassed two people in a shocking display of aggression.
Rowdy Night in the Lords
The House of Lords Conduct Committee’s report exposed Lord Ranger as “visibly drunk,” making “various inappropriate comments” to a group. He then stormed back at the same group, shouting, swearing, and hurling derogatory insults, even invading their personal space.
Heavy Punishment and Public Shame
As fallout, Lord Ranger surrendered the whip, becoming a non-aligned peer overnight. The whip’s office slammed his conduct as an “unacceptable breach” of parliamentary standards. The committee called for a three-week House suspension and a year-long ban from House of Lords bars.
Lord Ranger’s Sorry Excuse
Once Boris Johnson’s transport adviser when he was Mayor of London, Lord Ranger apologised, saying he did not recall the incident but was “deeply mortified” by the allegations. He claimed stress over his wife and children’s health issues affected his mental state.
The House of Lords standards commissioner had initially suggested a one-week suspension. But the Conduct Committee labelled the behaviour “particularly serious,” stressing his bullying was prolonged and alcohol-fuelled harassment.
