Tragic Crash on A1 in Northumberland Claims Life of 86-Year-Old Man
An elderly man has died following a two-vehicle crash on the A1 near Belford, Northumberland. The fatal collision happened just after 10am on Saturday at the junction with the B6349.
Scene of Horror: White Hyundai and Black Nissan Collide
The crash involved a white Hyundai i20 and a black Nissan Qashqai. Emergency services rushed to the scene where the driver of the Hyundai, an 86-year-old man, was found with life-threatening injuries. Despite paramedics’ best efforts, he was pronounced dead at the site.
Family in Mourning as Police Launch Serious Collision Probe
Specialist family liaison officers are supporting the man’s next of kin during this heartbreak. Meanwhile, the Nissan’s occupants — a man, a woman, and two children — suffered minor injuries. They were treated in hospital and have since been discharged.
Police Appeal for Witnesses and Dashcam Footage
Northumbria Police temporarily closed the road for hours to investigate. Sgt. Steve Armstrong from the Motor Patrols unit said:
“Our thoughts are with the family and loved ones of the man who has sadly lost his life in this tragic incident. We will offer them all support as they cope with their grief.”
