Massive Grass Fire Rages Across Wanstead Flats
More than 225 firefighters are battling a huge grass blaze at Wanstead Flats, with around 100 hectares of land on fire. Despite the massive scale, there is no immediate threat to any nearby homes or buildings.
Smoke Clouds Drift Over Roads
Group Manager Rob Davies, who is at the scene, warned residents: “Keep windows and doors shut. A lot of smoke is drifting across roads, and while there is no immediate threat to property, you should avoid the area if you can.”
Firefighters Race to Contain Blazing Grassland
- 40 fire engines from Walthamstow, Leytonstone, Hainault, and other stations are tackling the inferno.
- The London Fire Brigade was called at 4.05pm.
- Control centres have been flooded with over 110 calls reporting the visible fire.
Wanstead Flats, known for its vast open grassland, remains alight as crews continue their fight against the spreading flames.
