Tragedy at Sea: Woman Falls Overboard from MSC Virtuosa Near Channel Islands

A woman has died after falling overboard from the MSC Virtuosa cruise ship in the early hours of Saturday morning near the Channel Islands.

Massive Rescue Operation Launched

The French coastguard received a distress call just after midnight. A huge rescue mission swung into action, involving a French navy helicopter, an RNLI lifeboat, and a Channel Islands air search plane. The victim was located north of Les Casquets, northwest of Alderney.

A helicopter lifted the woman from the water, but despite urgent medical efforts, she was later pronounced dead.

MSC Virtuosa Continues to Southampton

The MSC Virtuosa, owned by MSC Cruises, was on its way to Southampton after sailing from Cartagena Port in Spain. The ship docked at 8:04 a.m. following the heart-breaking incident.

MSC Cruises released a brief statement confirming: “A guest on board MSC Virtuosa went overboard on 12 October while the ship was sailing to Southampton.”
