Four Nabbed After High-Speed Chase on A23 and A27
Police are hunting for more witnesses after a dramatic car chase ended with four arrests. The pursuit began at around 6pm on Saturday, January 27, when officers spotted a suspicious blue Ford Focus heading south on the A23 near Pyecombe.
Crash and Chase: Ford Focus Rams Ashcombe Roundabout
The driver refused to stop and sped onto the A27 eastbound. Near the Ashcombe Roundabout, between Falmer and Lewes, the car clipped another vehicle in a minor collision. The occupants then fled the scene on foot but were quickly caught by police on foot and with the help of the National Police Air Service helicopter.
Police Seek Dashcam Footage and Eyewitnesses
Officers urge anyone who saw the chase or has dashcam, CCTV, or mobile footage showing the vehicle on the A23 or A27 before the crash to get in touch. You can submit info online or call 101 quoting case number 963 of 27/01.
The Four Arrested
- 30-year-old man from hastings/" title="Hastings" data-wpil-keyword-link="linked">Hastings: Charged with dangerous driving, failure to stop for police, and possession of a firearm intending to incite fear. Released on bail until April 28 awaiting further probes.
- 21-year-old man from Hastings: Facing the same charges including possession of an unlawful firearm. Bail set until April 20.
- 21-year-old man from Battle: Arrested for vehicle theft, firearm possession with intent to cause fear, and failure to stop. Also on bail until April 20 while investigations continue.
- 25-year-old Hastings man: Suspected of aggravated vehicle taking, dangerous driving, possession of a firearm without a certificate, and failure to stop. Bail granted until April 20 for further inquiry.
