Lorry Overturns on Busy Sheppey Roundabout – One Hospitalised
A lorry flipped on the packed Cowstead Corner roundabout along the A249 in Sheppey early this morning, sending one person to hospital.
Emergency Services Rush to Scene
Fire engines and ambulance crews swarmed the site after the crash at around 6:30am on Friday, August 23, 2024. The South East Coast Ambulance Service confirmed one person was treated on-site before being rushed to Medway Maritime Hospital. The severity of their injuries remains unknown.
Kent Fire and Rescue Service also deployed two fire engines to support Kent Police at the scene.
Major Traffic Chaos as Road Remains Closed
The overturned HGV has sparked massive delays, with gridlock reported along both the A249 and A2500 Lower Road. Highway officers are on-site recovering the lorry. The road closure is expected to last until at least 2pm. Drivers are urged to find alternative routes.
Investigation Underway, No Other Vehicles Involved
Luckily, no other vehicles were part of the crash. Authorities are actively probing what caused the lorry to overturn.
