Teens Seriously Injured After High-Speed Moped Chase Ends in Crash
Just before midnight on Monday, December 4, police in a marked car spotted a white Honda moped on Somers Road. The moped carried two teenage boys — a rider and a pillion passenger.
Police Pursuit Ends in Shocking Collision
The rider refused to stop, speeding down Margate Road, Victoria Road North, and Victoria Road South. The chase ended abruptly when the moped smashed into a silver BMW 1 Series at the junction of 1 Road and Clarendon Road.
Two Teens Airlifted with Life-Threatening Injuries
The two boys, from Portsmouth and Southsea, suffered serious, life-threatening injuries in the crash. Both were rushed to hospital and remain in critical condition. No arrests have been made so far.
Police Appeal for Witnesses and Dashcam Footage
Officers are urging anyone who saw the chase or collision to come forward. They’re especially keen on CCTV, doorbell, or dashcam footage along the moped’s route.
“As is normal practice in these situations, the matter has been referred to the Independent Office for Police Conduct,” police confirmed.
