Police are hunting witnesses after a terrifying attempted accosting in Witham on Tuesday, June 30. Around 9.15pm, a teen girl was walking along Maldon Road, close to the Gulf petrol station, when a silver Ford Transit van screeched to a halt beside her.

A passenger jumped out and tried to confront the girl.

Suspects Described as Two White Men, 40s

  • Passenger: Late 40s, large build, short brown hair, stubbled beard. Dressed in black hooded jumper, black work trousers, and steel-toe cap boots.
  • Driver: Slim build, 40s, medium-length light brown hair, short beard. Wearing dark clothing.

Good Samaritan Interrupts Attempt – Police Want to Talk

The passenger was spooked by a passer-by, leapt back into the van, and sped off. Police are desperate to find this hero, believed to be a white man in his 50s with long grey hair, wearing a cream jumper. The victim recalls he called himself Richard.
