Lorry Crash on A27 Near Chichester Kills Driver
A lorry driver has tragically died after a crash involving two lorries on the A27 this afternoon.
A27 Shut After Deadly Collision
The smash happened on the westbound carriageway between Havant Road/Emsworth and Fishbourne. Authorities closed the A27 in both directions, causing chaos for motorists. Traffic built up, with jams stretching back to the M27. While the eastbound side eventually reopened, one lane remains shut near the scene.
55-Year-Old Man Dies at Scene
Sussex Police confirmed the victim was a 55-year-old man from Andover. Despite emergency crews rushing to the scene, the driver was pronounced dead onsite.
“At 14.20 this afternoon, there was a road traffic crash involving two heavy goods vehicles on the westbound carriageway of the A27 between Chichester and Havant,” said Inspector Stuart Goodwin. “Sadly, a 55-year-old man died at the scene due to his injuries.
“Our investigation teams are at the scene conducting inquiries. The road closure will remain in place for several hours. Diversions run via the old A259 road from Chichester,” he added.
Police Appeal for Witnesses
Sussex Police urged anyone who witnessed the crash or has information to come forward. Contact them on 101 quoting Operation Anglian.
Drivers are warned to avoid the area and seek alternative routes as the investigation continues.
