Blaze at Suspected Abbey Wood Cannabis Factory Sparks Major Firefighting Effort
Fire Erupts at Suspected Cannabis Grow House
A suspected cannabis factory in Abbey Wood went up in flames on Saturday night, sparking a rapid response from firefighters. The blaze broke out at a home on Ampleforth Road, believed to be used for illegal cannabis cultivation.
Massive Firefighting Operation Launched
At 9.15pm on January 27, four fire engines and 25 firefighters from Plumstead, East Greenwich, and Bexley rushed to the scene. By the time they arrived, the fire had already gutted most of the first floor and roof of the property.
Neighbours had wisely evacuated beforehand, with eight homes empty by the time the London Fire Brigade arrived. Thankfully, no injuries were reported.
The Hidden Dangers of Cannabis Factory Fires
Cannabis grow house fires pose serious hazards. Crooks often rig up unsafe, illegal electrical wiring to power their operations, which leads to rapid fire spread – especially when these setups are in lofts or upper floors.
Such fires not only destroy roofs but also risk damage to neighbouring homes. Firefighters face extra dangers too, including hidden traps and faulty wiring set up by criminals.
Fire Brigade Urges Vigilance
The London Fire Brigade is urging locals to stay alert and report any suspicious activity connected to potential cannabis factories. Fast reporting and swift action can stop these hazardous fires before they spiral out of control.
This incident highlights the vital role of emergency crews in protecting communities from the growing threat of illegal grow house fires.
