Hurricane Kirk’s Wrath Set to Shake UK Next Week
Hurricane Kirk has ramped up to a fierce Category 4 storm over the Atlantic. While it’s not barreling straight for Britain, its aftermath promises to unleash a brutal blast of unsettled weather across the UK next week. Expect snow, heavy rain, and powerful winds to batter parts of the country.
Cold Snap and Stormy Skies on the Horizon
The Met Office’s latest long-range forecast from October 8-17 warns of “frequent bouts of wind and rain” linked to low-pressure systems triggered by Kirk’s remnants. Southern England faces persistent showers, but it’s Scotland and Northern Ireland that will feel the chill first with sleet and snow hitting the Scottish Highlands.
After the cold front sweeps through, there may be a brief lull before more wild weather storms in, especially over southern regions. The weekend looks mixed, with dry, sunny spells on Saturday giving way to patchy rain and heavier downpours spreading on Sunday.
Midweek Mayhem: Rain and Strong Winds Incoming
From midweek, Kirk’s leftover low-pressure system could cause disruption across Britain, especially in England and Wales. The storm won’t be a hurricane by then but could still drive severe winds and heavy rain.
“The resulting low-pressure system will still have the potential to bring disruptive rain and winds to some areas, including parts of the UK, from the middle of next week,” said Chris Bulmer, deputy chief meteorologist at the Met Office.
Mr Bulmer stressed the forecast is still up in the air. A slight shift could mean the worst conditions hit France instead. “The need for warnings will be kept under review over the coming days, so it’s important to stay up to date with the latest forecast,” he added.
What to Expect This Weekend
- Saturday: Dry with sunny spells for most of the UK. Northern Ireland and western Scotland will see some cloud and patchy rain, spreading to western England and Wales by evening.
- Sunday: Humid conditions with heavy rain moving eastwards throughout the day.
Brits should brace for a dramatic dip in temperatures and a rollercoaster of wet and windy weather thanks to the lingering effects of Hurricane Kirk. Keep your brollies at the ready and stay tuned for updates.
