Life Behind Bars: A 45-year-old man has been handed a life sentence with a minimum of 20 years for the murder of his brother-in-law in Watford.
Murder Plot Uncovered
Zaheer Abbas, from Weldale Street in Reading, was jailed today for his part in the 2021 killing of Amjad Hussain. The court found Abbas played a key role by assisting and encouraging his nephew, Husnein Amjad, to carry out the fatal attack.
This case ties back to December 2023, when Husnein Amjad, 25, of Fuller Road, Watford, was convicted of murdering his own father, Amjad Hussain. Husnein was sentenced to life imprisonment with a minimum of 17 years before parole.
A Chilling, Calculated Crime
Prosecutors revealed the murder was premeditated. Abbas did not deliver the blow but was vital in enabling and encouraging the murder. The judge slammed his involvement as “deliberate and calculated,” highlighting the deep trauma inflicted on the family and community.
Judge’s Verdict: Betrayal and Callousness
“You may not have delivered the fatal blow, but your contribution was vital. You encouraged and enabled this murder, betraying the trust of those closest to you.”
The judge also condemned both men for showing a “callous disregard for human life.”
Family Heartbreak and Community Shock
Amjad Hussain was remembered as a devoted father and brother, whose life was “cruelly taken by those he trusted.” Police praised the bravery of family members who came forward to help the investigation.
Double Life Sentences
- Zaheer Abbas: Life sentence, minimum 20 years
- Husnein Amjad: Life sentence, minimum 17 years
Detectives hope today’s sentencing offers some closure to the grieving family and Watford community.
