M2 Crash Chaos: Kent Motorway Shut After Central Reservation Smash
The M2 motorway in Kent is grinding to a halt after a car slammed into the central reservation, sparking a total closure and snarling traffic for up to three hours.
Serious Collision Shuts Dover-Bound Carriageway
Kent Police confirmed the Dover-bound side of the M2 is closed following a collision involving two vehicles near Blue Bell Hill. The smash was reported at 11.28am on Tuesday 16 February 2021.
Specialist collision investigators are on scene, and a large green screen has been set up on the London-bound side. The investigation is expected to take several hours.
Long Queues and Stranded Drivers
- Motorists faced heavy delays, with traffic backing up to Sittingbourne on the London-bound carriageway.
- Some drivers were stranded for hours, even gathering in a muddy field to safely hand over a young baby.
- Although the London-bound side reopened by 2.15pm, the Dover-bound closure remains in force.
Police Appeal for Witnesses and Dashcam Footage
A closure is being enforced on the coastbound M2 following a serious collision near Blue Bell Hill,” Kent Police said. “Officers have closed the coastbound carriageway between junctions 3 and 4 to ensure public safety and allow a full investigation.”
