Major Rescue Operation Underway at Babbs Mill Park
Emergency services have swarmed Babbs Mill Park in Solihull after several children fell through the ice on a frozen lake. Paramedics, police, and firefighters rushed to the scene near Babbs Mill Lake shortly before 4 p.m. on Sunday.
Fordbridge Road and the nearby Stonebridge Crescent estate are lined with police cars, ambulances, and fire engines as teams battle the chilling crisis.
Five Children Fall Through Ice, Multiple Casualties
Sources reveal that five children entered the frozen lake and broke through the ice, sparking a frantic rescue effort. Several victims are critically ill after being hauled from the freezing water.
“We are currently on the scene of a serious incident at Babbs Mill Park, Fordbridge Road,” confirmed West Midlands Police. “We are working closely with West Midlands Fire and the ambulance service.”
Specialist Water Rescue Teams Lead the Effort
West Midlands Fire and Rescue service arrived at 2.36 p.m., deploying specialist water rescue teams who used advanced equipment to control the situation and carry out the rescues.
A spokesman said: “People had been playing on the ice and fell through. Firefighters and paramedics treated casualties at the scene before hospital transfer.”
