Police have closed a road this evening following a two vehicle head on collision. Traffic has ground to a holt in and around the closure. Many drivers are trapped in the closure whilst investigations and the clear up and recovery operation takes place. The road is likely to be closed for a number of hours until at least tommorrow morning whilst Police carry out investigations Otterbourne Road in the village Shawford on the outskirts of Winchester has been closed in both direction following an Emergency services are currently at the scene and dealing with the incident and have asked drivers to avoid the area whilst they deal with the incident. Emergency services were called to the incident just before 6pm this evening. A spokeswomen from Hampshire Fire and Rescue said “They were called at 17:50 this evening to a two vehicle collision and three people are being treated by South Central Ambulance Services fire crews made the scene safe and have left the incident in the hands of the police. The road closure is affecting drivers leaving the M3 at Junction 9 and Junction 11 who use the road as a cut through to surrounding villages. Local Bluestar bus services to Eastleigh and Winchester have been effected and have been unable to use the full route due to the collision. Drivers are reporting delays are back to the A3090 Hockley Link in Winchester. A Spokesman for Hampshire and Isle of Wight Police said “That the people involved have been rushed to hospital and have sustained life changing serious injuries””” Investigations into the exact circumstances of the collision are continue and officers are keen to speak to anyone who may have seen the incident or either of the vehicles prior to it. A 52-year-old woman and 5-year-old boy have both been taken to hospital with life threatening injuries. Otterbourne Road is currently closed where it junctions with Hurdle Way, Shawford Road, Badger Farm Road and Grove Road.
