Chaos on Otterbourne Road after Horror Head-On Crash
Otterbourne Road in Shawford, near Winchester, has been shut in both directions after a serious two-vehicle head-on collision tonight. Traffic is at a standstill, with many drivers trapped amid the chaos.
Emergency Services Rush to Scene
Fire crews from Eastleigh and Winchester joined police and South Central Ambulance Services at the crash site just before 6pm. Thankfully, no one is trapped, but injuries are believed to be serious. Hampshire Fire and Rescue confirmed: “We were called at 17:50 for a two-vehicle collision. Three people are being treated by ambulance crews. Fire crews made the scene safe and have now left it in police hands.”
Road Closure Set to Last Hours
The road is expected to remain closed for several hours, possibly until tomorrow morning, as police investigate and recovery work continues. Drivers are urged to avoid the area.
Traffic Nightmare Spreads
The closure is causing major delays for motorists leaving the M3 at Junctions 9 and 11, who normally use Otterbourne Road as a cut-through. Local Bluestar bus routes to Eastleigh and Winchester have been disrupted, unable to complete their full journeys. Drivers report tailbacks stretching as far back as the A3090.
