A serial lothario, who befriends lonely women on internet sites like Plenty of Fish and Facebook, and then steals from them, is being sought by the police.
David Kean, 46, is wanted in connection with offences committed against women from across the country, including one victim from Portsmouth – the second since he was freed from jail for similar crimes.
David Kean fleeced Portsmouth’s Carolyn Foulkes out of more than £2,000 after meeting her on a night out, as previously reported on Spotted Portsmouth.
Weeks earlier, he stole £1,500 from Carlisle mum Michelle Toal Dalton.
Carolyn’s family is desperate to trace Kean, who was freed in November. The appeal posted on Spotted Portsmouth on Tuesday evening has already been shared over 53 thousand times and attracted over 10 thousand comments.
Carolyn’s son Kurt said, “This man has to be stopped. Since he has conned my mum, I’ve spoken to five other women he has also done this to.”
The 30-year-old said his mum, 53, fell for Glasgow-born Kean on a night out with friends in Rhyl, north Wales.
The conman went under the name of Dan Dalton and claimed he was taking time off from his job as a security guard at Ibrox.
The pair exchanged numbers and stayed in touch and last week Kean, 46, travelled to see Carolyn in Portsmouth, where she lives with her son.
Kurt said, “My mum thought she’d finally met a nice bloke who she clicked with.”
He said Kean told Carolyn his wages had been delayed so she lent him £2000 to buy clothes, shoes and designer aftershaves.
But on Tuesday, Kean did a runner. Kurt said Carolyn discovered her bank card and jewellery worth £2,000 were missing.
He added: “My mum had to tell me that he had basically conned her into lending him money. He’d left his bag with his old clothes. We found a flip knife in his bag.”
At Hamilton Sheriff Court in September 2015, Kean admitted five charges of theft and dishonesty against women between 2009 and 2012. He was jailed for two years but served just over a year.
In March 2015, Laura Mitchell, 44, from Paisley, met Kean on a dating site. He fled after she gave him £50.
Helen Gardner, 38, of Rutherglen, Glasgow, was also duped by Kean, who had got her pregnant and left her penniless.
Mum-of-three Janet Mighton, 43, from Whitburn, West Lothian, was left more than £650 out of pocket after meeting Kean online in March 2015.
Kean, whose last-known address was Byland Close, Eastbourne, uses a number of other names including David Donald, David Ross, David Kayne, David Marshall and David Jamieson.
Have you seen Kean? He is about 5ft 7in tall, well-built, stocky with blue eyes. He has tattoos saying ‘Daddy’s Little Princess’ and ‘Daddy’s Little Angel’ on his forearms. A third tattoo of the name Melissa, which he claims is his daughter’s name, is actually that of a previous partner.
He is bald with piercings in both ears and sometimes wears gold hoops. Kean is sometimes clean shaven but has a goatee.
Anybody who has any information about Kean’s whereabouts is asked to call police on 101 or the Crimestoppers charity anonymously on 0800 555 111 or give info via http://www.crimestoppers-uk.org
