Six fire appliances are at single-storey car workshop blaze in Southampton. If you live nearby keep windows and doors shut that’s the advice from Hampshire Fire and Rescue. Police have closed Shirley High Street In Southampton as thirty fire fighters tackle the blaze. Newlands Avenue and Janson Road have also been effected by the closure.
No one has been hurt as a result of the fire and everyone has many to escape it is understood.
First Southampton have said the following are in divert due to blaze the 1,2,3,12 services are diverting via Paynes Rd and Mill Brook West Road. Hampshire fire and rescue said that they have got crews from Redbridge,St Mary’s and Eastleigh and an aerial ladder platform from St Mary’s has also been to the scene. Crews were mobilised just after 10.45am this morning to Lumsden Avenue. South central ambulance have also sent a rapid response paramedic and an ambulance crew to the scene.
Resident living near by said they came see large plums of smoke
Chloe McKenzie who lives on Shirley Road said that it has been closed in places. The neighbourhood is filled with black smoke. I have had to closed the windows it’s that bad.
Adjourning properties have been evacuated whilst fire crews tackle the fire externally. Crews in Breathing apparatus are using five jets and one hose reel. It is understood that the environment agency have also been informed and are attending the incident.
Near by drainage systems have been sealed off by fire crews to stop the run off from entering the water system.
The cause of the fire has yet to be discovered and is currently under investigation.
