Sky Ride Local Returns: Free Fun Bike Rides Hit Southampton This Summer
Ready to hit the saddle but don’t know where to start? Sky Ride Local is back in Southampton with a brand-new series of free guided bike rides. Perfect for all ages and abilities, these rides promise fun, fitness, and a fresh way to explore the city!

In partnership with British Cycling and Sky, Southampton City Council is launching exciting guided rides throughout 2016. Led by British Cycling-trained Ride Leaders, the routes showcase the city like never before. Whether you’re a newbie or a seasoned pedal-pusher, there’s a ride level to suit you.
“There’s no better way to get outdoors, get some exercise, and explore your local area with family and friends than on a bike ride,” said David Bourque, British Cycling’s Director of Recreation and Partnerships.
“Join the fun from Sunday 29 May. Whether you’re building confidence or looking for a challenge, there’s a Sky Ride Local for you in Southampton.”
Local Council Backing and Wider Cycling Programmes
Dawn Baxendale, Southampton City Council’s Chief Executive, praised the initiative:
“Sky Ride Local events have been hugely popular, inspiring individuals and families to get out and about on their bikes regularly. We’re thrilled to see another year of fantastic guided rides.”
Plus, there’s even more cycling on offer! Breeze, the nation’s biggest programme designed to get more women on bikes, runs weekly rides led by volunteer Breeze Champions. And for those looking to meet fellow riders, Ride Social – Britain’s biggest social cycling community – helps cyclists connect and ride together.
