Armed Police Lock Down Margate After Man With Gun Report
Part of Marine Parade in Margate has been placed under full police lockdown following reports of a man on the loose armed with a gun. Armed officers, wearing balaclavas and carrying firearms, stormed the area after a high-speed chase along the M2 near Canterbury on Tuesday afternoon.
High-Speed Chase and Helicopter Search
Armed police were seen exiting a blue BMW X5 undercover vehicle shortly after the chase. A National Police Air Service helicopter is circling above, aiding the search. Several roads have been blocked off by marked police units, causing disruption in the area.
Robbery Sparks Dramatic Police Response
Kent Police revealed the drama started with a robbery at a commercial premises on Newington Road, Ramsgate, just before 2pm on Wednesday 19 February. A sum of cash was stolen, and while no injuries were reported, eyewitnesses spotted a weapon during the incident.
A Kent Police spokesperson said: “Officers were called to a report of a robbery at a commercial premises in Newington Road, Ramsgate. Following further information, our firearms unit arrested a man at Marine Terrace, Margate just after 3pm in connection with the robbery.”
Man Arrested, Investigations Ongoing
The suspect was taken into custody without incident. Police continue to patrol Newington Road and Marine Terrace as inquiries into the case unfold. Locals are urged to stay clear of the area while the investigation continues.
