Serial Shoplifter Nabbed in Eastbourne
Adam Summerford, 33, with no fixed address, has been convicted after a spree of shoplifting across Eastbourne. The prolific thief pleaded guilty to 14 charges at Brighton Magistrates’ Court on November 30.
Shopping Spree of Stolen Goods
Between October 23 and November 26, Summerford targeted multiple stores including The Range, Sports Direct, Co-op, and Sainsbury’s. His haul included a vacuum cleaner, clothing, alcohol, and food items.
Caught on CCTV, Caught by Police
- Police worked closely with local businesses to review CCTV footage, which clearly identified Summerford as the culprit.
- He was arrested on November 28 and remanded in custody.
- At court, Summerford received a 12-week custodial sentence suspended for 18 months and was ordered to undergo a drug rehabilitation programme.

PC Christopher Holmes, Eastbourne Neighbourhood Policing, said: “Adam Summerford is a prolific offender and was identified thanks to the collaboration between Sussex Police, businesses and our community partners. This teamwork is vital in catching repeat offenders who cause harm not just financially but also intimidate shop workers.”
