Shocking Moment Smuggler Hurls Dozen Migrants Overboard Near Calais
A ruthless people smuggler threw at least a dozen migrants into the sea after a violent brawl broke out on a dinghy headed for Britain. The terrifying incident happened just after the overcrowded boat left a beach in Calais, northern France, last month.
Chaos on Board: Young Women Among Those Thrown Into Water
The fight sparked over cramped conditions, with tensions erupting into punches. In a desperate move, the smuggler began tossing “troublemakers” into the cold water — including young women. At least 12 migrants wearing life jackets plunged overboard amid the chaos.
“There was an argument about space and soon people were punching each other. The skipper was worried the boat might capsize if the fighting continued, so he threw troublemakers into the sea,” a witness revealed.
Rescue Mission: French Emergency Teams Save All Overboard
Luckily, French emergency crews on jet skis and dinghies raced to the scene, rescuing all those in the water between one and two miles off the northern coast. Despite the trauma, no hypothermia cases were reported. All migrants, including those on board, were taken back to France, treated for minor injuries, and later released.
Smugglers’ Ruthless Tactics and Overcrowded Boats Put Lives at Risk
This horrific event highlights the extreme dangers migrants face trying to cross the English Channel. Smugglers cram twice as many passengers as the boats can safely hold, turning vessels designed for 20 people into death traps carrying 40. Many boats are shoddily built using “bouncy castle plastic” — far worse quality than years past.
Meanwhile, delays in migrant transfers to Dorset’s Bibby Stockholm barge due to fire safety issues add another layer of chaos to the crisis. Border Force officials continue warnings about the deadly overcrowding and urge stricter action against smugglers exploiting desperate migrants.
This incident stands as a stark warning: without stronger enforcement and safer crossings, more lives will be put in peril on the deadly Channel route.
