Folkestone Crackdown: Shoplifters Busted and Jailed
Folkestone’s streets are safer thanks to a tough new push against shoplifting. Quick police action has bagged arrests, charges, and even jail time for thieves targeting local shops.
Swift Police Action Nets Multiple Arrests
Thanks to rapid responses from Folkestone’s Beat Team officers, several suspects were caught red-handed over recent weeks. The Victim Based Crime Team then quickly gathered the evidence to charge them.
On 15 December, an alert officer spotted a man triggering shop alarms in the town centre. The suspect was chased and arrested nearby.
Repeat Offenders Face Court and Jail
- Josh Burgess, 22, from Grove Road, Folkestone, was charged with five counts of theft involving clothes and trainers stolen between July and December 2023. His court date is set for 19 February 2024 at Folkestone Magistrates’ Court.
- Luke Neale, 41, no fixed address, was charged with two thefts and two assaults after incidents in August and November at stores on Park Farm Industrial Estate and Bouverie Place. Over £3,000 worth of goods were stolen, and staff were threatened. Neale will appear at Thanet Magistrates’ Court on 3 March 2024.
- Hayden Yeomans, 21, from Sheldwich Close, Ashford, was arrested on 26 December after stealing from a supermarket and assaulting a security guard. He pleaded guilty and was jailed for 28 days at Folkestone Magistrates’ Court the very next day.
Top Cop Vows to Keep Up Pressure
“Our officers are dead set on protecting local shops and their staff,” said Detective Inspector James Wyles of Folkestone Community Safety Unit. “We’re tracking down repeat offenders and getting them before the courts fast. One shoplifter went straight to jail within 24 hours — and we’ll be taking more crooks off the streets this year.”
