Seven Men on Trial Over Murder of Kai McGinley in Shocking Erith Hit

A gripping trial kicked off on January 17th at the Old Bailey, where seven men stand accused of the cold-blooded murder of 24-year-old Kai McGinley. The young man was blasted to death after a deliberate crash in Erith, in what prosecutors claim was a carefully planned and targeted hit linked to drug activity.

Shotgun Blast Ends Young Man’s Life After Crash

Kai McGinley’s life was brutally cut short on the evening of February 9, 2023. The 24-year-old was shot with a shotgun on Pembroke Road, Erith, while travelling with friends Bill Burton and Norman Samura in a stolen white Mini Countryman with fake plates. Prosecutor Brian O’Neill KC told the jury that the attack was no accident—it was murder.

Sinister Collision Sparks Fatal Shooting

At around 8:45pm, a silver Land Rover Freelander with its headlights off sped towards the Mini head-on, closely followed by a grey Peugeot 307. “Kai tried to move left to let the Land Rover pass,” said O’Neill, “but it smashed into the Mini deliberately and at speed.” The Mini spun to a halt before occupants from the Land Rover and Peugeot opened fire, unleashing four or five shotgun blasts. One struck Kai in the chest, killing him instantly.

Emergency services arrived quickly but despite their efforts, Kai was pronounced dead at 9:31pm. The Land Rover broke down further along the road as the suspects fled.

Seven Charged: Who’s In The Dock?

The seven accused face murder charges for Kai McGinley and attempted murder for his two friends. They are:

  • Enriko Spahiu, 21, Belvedere
  • Jalees Selby-Gangera, 18, Erith
  • Connor Brooks, 21, Erith
  • Bradlee Reeve, 34, Erith
  • Kai Osibodu, 24, Erith
  • Charlei Brabon, 19, Erith
  • Anthony Wallder, 21, Bexley

O’Neill said Reeve, Spahiu, and Wallder were in the Peugeot, with Osibodu, Brooks, Selby-Gangera, and Brabon driving the Land Rover. All deny the charges.

The trial rolls on as the court seeks justice for Kai McGinley and justice for the terrifying ordeal his friends endured that night.
