27-Year-Old Man Dies in M1 Collision as Police Arrest Suspect

A 27-year-old man tragically died following a collision between a lorry and a car on the M1 motorway in the early hours of Saturday, September 21, 2024. The incident occurred around 04:04 AM, just south of Junction 27. Emergency services were dispatched to the scene immediately, but the young man was pronounced dead upon their arrival.

Nottinghamshire Police have arrested a 47-year-old man on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving and drug driving. The suspect has since been released on bail as investigations continue.

The crash led to major traffic disruptions, with the M1 motorway closed between Junctions 26 and 27 for 12 hours to allow for thorough investigations. By late afternoon, road closures were being lifted, and traffic was beginning to flow again in the affected area.

DC Taylor also emphasised that the investigation is still in its early stages, urging witnesses or anyone with relevant dashcam footage to come forward and assist with the inquiry.
