Tragic M1 Crash Claims Life of 27-Year-Old Man
A 27-year-old man has died after a brutal collision between a lorry and a car on the M1 motorway in the early hours of Saturday, September 21, 2024. The crash happened just after 4am, south of Junction 27.
47-Year-Old Arrested Over Deadly Smash
Emergency services rushed to the scene, but sadly the young man was pronounced dead on arrival. Nottinghamshire Police arrested a 47-year-old man on suspicion of death by dangerous driving and drug driving.
The suspect has since been released on bail while police carry out further investigations.
M1 Shut for 12 Hours as Investigation Underway
The smash caused major traffic chaos. The M1 was closed between Junctions 26 and 27 for 12 hours, delaying countless motorists. Roads gradually reopened late Saturday afternoon as traffic began to ease.
Police Seek Witnesses and Dashcam Footage
“This is a tragic incident and our thoughts are with this man’s family and loved ones at an incredibly distressing time,” said Detective Constable Christopher Taylor from Nottinghamshire Police’s Serious Collision Investigation Unit.
DC Taylor confirmed the victim’s family is receiving specialist support and urged anyone with information or dashcam footage to come forward.
