Man Arrested After Police Officer Stabbed in Cambridge

A 26-year-old man has been arrested after a police officer was stabbed during a proactive patrol in Cambridge earlier this week.

The incident occurred on Wednesday afternoon (March 19) on Eagle Street, where officers from Cambridgeshire Constabulary had stopped two men as part of ongoing efforts to tackle suspected drug activity in the area.

During the stop, one of the officers was seriously injured after being stabbed in the left arm. He was taken to Addenbrooke’s Hospital, where he received treatment and has since been discharged.

The suspect, a local man from Cambridge, was arrested on suspicion of assault, possession of a knife, and being concerned in the supply of drugs. He was taken into custody at Parkside Police Station, where he remains under questioning.

Officer Recovering Well

Detective Chief Inspector Tom Rowe praised the officers involved, stating:

“Following yesterday’s incident in Cambridge where an incredibly brave officer was seriously injured, I am pleased to say that the officer is recovering well and being offered ongoing support.

Both officers acted with great bravery. Their quick-thinking and skilled work undoubtedly contributed to ensuring both the stable condition of the officer and the prevention of any further risk to the public. I am proud that these two officers serve with Cambridgeshire Constabulary.”

Public Appeal

Cambridgeshire Police are continuing their investigation and are appealing to the public for any information that could assist their enquiries.
