A 26-year-old man has been arrested after a police officer was stabbed during a patrol in Cambridge.

Officer Stabbed in Cambridge Stop

The shocking attack happened on Wednesday afternoon (March 19) on Eagle Street. Cambridgeshire police officers had stopped two men amid a crackdown on suspected drug activity when one suddenly pulled a knife. The officer was stabbed in the left arm and rushed to Addenbrooke’s Hospital. Fortunately, he has since been discharged and is recovering well.

Suspect in Custody

The suspect, a local Cambridge man, was arrested on suspicion of assault, possession of a knife, and involvement in drug supply. He is currently in custody at Parkside Police Station undergoing questioning.

Hero Officer Recovering, Police Praise Bravery

Detective Chief Inspector Tom Rowe said: “Following yesterday’s incident in Cambridge where an incredibly brave officer was seriously injured, I am pleased to say that the officer is recovering well and being offered ongoing support. Both officers acted with great bravery. Their quick thinking helped keep the officer stable and prevented further risk to the public. I am proud these officers serve with Cambridgeshire Constabulary.”

Cambridgeshire Police continue to investigate and urge anyone with information to come forward. Witnesses can contact police online or call 101 quoting incident 295 of 19 March.
