Man Arrested After Car Hits Pedestrians at Liverpool FC Title Parade

A man has been arrested following a serious road traffic collision during Liverpool FC’s Premier League title-winning parade this evening.

According to Merseyside Police, the incident occurred just after 6:00 PM on Water Street in Liverpool city centre, where a car was reported to have collided with a number of pedestrians attending the celebration event.

 

 

Emergency services, including police and paramedics, responded swiftly to the scene. The vehicle stopped, and the driver was detained by police shortly after the incident.

“We are currently dealing with reports of a road traffic collision in Liverpool city centre. We were contacted at just after 6pm today, Monday 26 May, following reports a car had been in collision with a number of pedestrians on Water Street,” a Merseyside Police spokesperson confirmed.

“The car stopped at the scene and a male has been detained. Emergency services are currently on the scene. We will issue more updates as we have them.”

Crowd Safety Concerns

Thousands of fans had gathered in Liverpool city centre to celebrate the club’s first Premier League title win since 2020. Witnesses described chaotic scenes as bystanders rushed to assist the injured before medics arrived.

No official details have yet been released on the number of injured or the nature of their conditions.

Ongoing Investigation

The area around Water Street has been cordoned off while collision investigators and police gather evidence. Officers are also reviewing CCTV footage and speaking to witnesses.
